Module information and Academic Issues

The full list of modules running in the University of Exeter Business School are listed below.

Modules are either taught over a full academic year (both term 1 and term 2) or over one semester.

If you are studying with us for one semester September - January you may only choose modules taught in term 1.

If you are studying for one semester from January - June you may only choose modules taught in term 2.

Modules taught in term 1 and term 2 are taught September - June and you will need to be here for a full year to take these modules.

All module changes in the Business School will be completed via an online form. The form is only open during the first two weeks of term.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct academic background and knowledge in the subject area and it is your responsibility to ensure your home university has approved your modules.

You must be enrolled on 60 Exeter credits per semester.

Undergraduate students are not permitted to enrol on postgraduate modules. Postgraduate students can enrol on undergraduate modules with permission from their home university.

The online module change form is only for modules taught in the Business School. To enrol on modules outside the Business School please check the website

Our teaching is a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops, and attendance is mandatory. You will be taught in English and in class sizes from 20-350 depending on the module.

Assessment methods depend on the module studied, but may include a combination of examinations with coursework and assignments conducted individually or in small groups.

Level 1 modules focus on the introduction and development of basic skills and concepts relevant to each programme. Level 2 modules typically build on this foundation, introducing more advanced technical material.  Level 3 modules generally offer students the opportunity to extend their studies in areas of particular interest at a more advanced level.

It is really important that you have the correct academic background to study the module and meet the pre-requisites.

Students are able to choose modules from across the Business School in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Econometrics, Organisational Studies, and Management.

Students staying at Exeter for the whole academic year study 120 Exeter Credits, which is equivalent to 60 ECTS. This can be a combination of semester long and academic year long modules.

Students staying at Exeter for one semester study 60 Exeter Credits, which is equivalent to 30 ECTS. One semester students can only select modules taught solely in one semester.

Undergraduate exchange students are not able to enrol on Postgraduate modules. However, Postgraduate students are able to enrol on Undergraduate modules, if they have the approval of their home university.

You will receive further guidance on module selection as part of the Business School induction.

We won’t be able to guarantee module availability for the next academic year so remember that module choices agreed before arrival are provisional. Module registration and timetables will be finalised upon arrival at the Business School.

You should expect to be in Exeter during the assessment periods.

In principle, exchange students can select modules from across the University of Exeter, subject to meeting the necessary pre-requisite academic requirements, and gaining approval from their home institution as well as the University of Exeter.

Erasmus students may not take more than 25% of their modules from outside the Business School.
