Why study abroad?
Studying abroad gives you great experience of international cultures, values and languages which can crucially enhance your professional skill set. Living and studying in a new country will naturally enhance your adaptability, cross-cultural communication, self-confidence, resilience, and will stimulate creative thinking. Having real world examples of these skills can make you stand out from the crowd. Studying abroad in a different country with students from all around the world is also a great way to build and expand your global network of friends and professional contacts.
5 reasons that studying or working abroad makes you more employable:
- Employers value language skills
- You will become more confident and independent
- An increased cultural awareness (including of your own culture!)
- Make connections from all around the world
- Opens doors to job opportunities abroad in the future
How much does it cost?
The cost varies on which Study Abroad opportunity you do. For the QTEM and Double Degree programmes, there are no additional tuition fees payable to the partner institution. Please see individual programme pages for further details on fees payable to Exeter.
There are fees associated with Short-Term Study Abroad opportunities. However, the great partnerships that Exeter has with other universities means that for many of these courses the fee is waived or discounted for Exeter students. You may also be able to apply for University of Exeter scholarships to help fund your expenses.
What about language?
Studying abroad is available to all Business School students regardless of language ability. We have opportunities in English speaking countries as well as in countries where English is not the predominant language. Most of our partner institutions also offer a full range of modules taught in English, regardless of the local language.
If you do want to study in a language other than English, you will have to be sufficiently competent. The University of Exeter’s Foreign Language Centre currently offers evening classes that students can take. Even if you will be taught in English, you might still want to take some classes to prepare for your new environment.
