Operations and Analytics
The Operations & Analytics (O&A) group combines the best of the fields of Operations & Supply Chain Management (OSCM), Operations Research (OR) and Business Analytics. We are a multi-disciplinary group who are proud of our wide range of research methods and pedagogical teaching practices. We apply these methods to solve real-world challenges in sectors such as healthcare, food and agriculture, additive manufacturing, logistics and supply chain, construction, and fashion.
Our academic staff aspire to world-class research and publication in leading OSCM and OR journals, including Management Science, Journal of Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, European Journal of Operations Research, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of Business Research, Research Policy, Journal of Information Technology, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, and British Journal of Management.
There are currently three taught programs managed by the O&A group: BA in Business Analytics, MSc in Business Analytics, and MSc in Global Operations Management. We have a vibrant post-graduate research community, with PhD students who engage in some of the most pressing challenges of the 21st century, including sustainable manufacturing, promoting health and well-being in society, and transitioning to a carbon net zero circular economy. While the O&A group has considerable overlap with other areas of the School, such as Sustainable Futures in Penryn, and the Exeter Centre for Circular Economy, we have one dedicated research centre within the group - The Centre for Simulation & Analytics Management (CSAM). The team comprises academics with expertise in both analytical modelling and computer simulation. It has several ongoing research projects, funded through EU/UKRI grants and charitable contributions, that use modelling and simulation in areas such as the circular economy (EU ULTIMATE), resilience to climate change (EU ARSINOE), and urgent medical & emergency care (NHSquicker).
