Module description

This module has the following related aims:

  • To develop a global understanding of the most important issues that businesses face related to Information Systems, Technology and their management
  • To acquire the necessary skills to assess business opportunities and threats stemming from Information Systems and Technology
  • To become familiar with the current trends in Information Systems and Technology and their implications for businesses



In the lectures, students will learn about real-world global cases such as Netflix, Wikipedia, Amazon and more. Moreover, through analysing current ‘real-world’ examples in the workshops, you will have the opportunity to examine case studies of companies operating locally (e.g., NHS) and globally (e.g., Volvo).



This module explores the innovative ways in which digital technologies are assisting companies become more sustainable


External engagement

Guest speakers from the high-tech industry will be invited to share their experiences on how they manage their information systems



You will be able to develop skills necessary to succeed in today’s digitized business environments including critical thinking, business analysis, problem-solving, and team-working.

Module aims - intentions of the module

The aim of this module is to enable students to develop a global understanding of the most important issues that businesses face related to Information Systems and Technology and their management. Students will become familiar with current trends in Information Systems and Technology and will critically reflect on their implications for businesses. By doing so, students acquire the necessary skills to succeed in today’s digitized business environments.

Syllabus plan

The lectures will cover topics such as: Justifying, Developing and Acquiring Information Systems; Enterprise Systems; Data Analytics; Social Media and Web 2.0; Platforms and Ecosystems;PrivacyEthics and Societal Implications of Algorithmic Technologies; Current and Future Trends in Information Systemsin Organisations. All lecture topics are interconnected and cumulatively build upon each other, creating a coherent and well-orgnised structure based on broader themes, such as “Key Notions”, Algorithmic Technologies, and Organising for Value in the Digital Age. These are key themes that integrate the ILOs.
