University of Exeter Business School

New undergraduate students

Welcome message

Congratulations on achieving your place to study at the University of Exeter Business School. We're really looking forward to meeting you, and are delighted that you chose Exeter.

You will be working with exceptional people who will work hard to support and guide you, but you will get the most out of your time studying with us by committing to your own learning and the wider opportunities available to you. This starts with the pre-arrival aspects of your academic induction, and below you can discover more about how to access these. We are looking forward to sharing the new academic year with you and welcoming you as part of our Business School community.

Welcome to Exeter!

Professor Beverley Hawkins
Associate Dean of Education, University of Exeter Business School
Associate Professor of Leadership/Organisation Studies

Your academic induction

Welcome Week (18th – 22nd September) is an important and exciting start to your university life and incorporates your academic induction as well as a range of other activities. You will learn more about your course, and meet key staff and other new students at programme-specific welcome events by the Business School. Your event will appear in your personal timetable in iExeter when you have enrolled and have an active Exeter IT account.

Ahead of your arrival, please complete your online pre-arrival induction which will be available via this page from 4th September 2023; your welcome email will also include an invitation link. The induction is full of important information and advice about your studies and life as a student here. It also contains activities and discussion boards so you can start to get to know other students even before you start your course.

We strongly recommend that you access this as soon as possible and make the most of this fantastic opportunity to learn more about us, your peers and your programme.

Buddy-Up Scheme

You can also register now to be matched up with a current Business School student via our Buddy-Up Scheme. This is a great way to get friendly peer-led support through your first few weeks with us.

Students studying in Cornwall have a dedicated Cornwall Buddy-Up Scheme.

Your programme may contain optional modules in the year ahead, and if so you will need to go to Online Module Selection (OMS) to choose them. Module selection is open from 7th September, and we encourage you to explore this as early as possible. More information can be found here and on our new students' website.

Often pronounced 'Ellie', ELE is the university's online virtual learning environment. Each of your modules has an ELE page that will guide you through all of the activities and resources you need to succeed on your course. It sits alongside the live, synchronous sessions that you will participate in on campus or online.

iExeter is a free app that provides all students with a personalised dashboard of important information, such as your timetable, absence reporting, ELE,  Career Zone, study spaces with spare seats, and even laundry and transport around campus.

You do not need to worry about purchasing any books in advance of your course, and all core resources will be available electronically via our library. We will provide guidance on optional reading in our online pre-arrival induction.

Right now, as well as exploring our online pre-arrival induction (link in your email) you can also explore the university’s New Students’ Guide, and the iExeter app once you have registered.
