Overview

Suman has an MSc from University College London (UCL), PhD (fully funded) from Royal Holloway, University of London and PGCE (Management Education) from University of Surrey.

Suman joined University of Exeter in July 2022. In his previous role as Director of Accounting and Finance at Surrey International Institute, University of Surrey, Suman managed design, planning and delivery of academic programmes, student experience and accreditation requirements. While line managing all academic staff members, in this role, Suman also managed staff workload planning.

Prior to his role at Surrey International Institute, University of Surrey and De Montfort University, Suman was based at Surrey Business School where he led MSc International Business Management (the largest PG programme of the university) programme. Under Suman’s leadership, MSc IBM came out as a transformed programme in its focus on internationalisation and orientation of application in the design of its curriculum.

Suman has particular expertise in curriculum development and management. Appointed as Consultant Academic, with colleagues at UCL, Suman designed and delivered UCL School of Management’s first MOOC curriculum titled “Keeping up with Change: Issues for the Finance Professional”. Suman has also designed and developed module for MSc Professional Accountancy Programme for UCL.

Prior to joining academia, Suman has held senior management appointments in the industry.

Research

Research interests

  •  Labour rights and governance in the global production network
  • Employee voice
  •  Ethical governance for social justice
  •  Political role of business

In his research, Suman studies social justice from both an individual and firm perspectives. Within this broad theme, he conducts research on labour rights in the global production network and understanding firm governance from social justice perspective for stakeholders.  Being interdisciplinary in nature, his research draws on insights from a wide spectrum of research fields. 

Research projects

Currently, Suman is working on a number of interesting research projects around supply chain governance, theories of business ethics and employee voice from the perspective of justice.
