About me:
Dr Rumana Huq is a Senior Lecturer in Finance in the Degree Apprenticeship Department at the University of Exeter Business School, joined in 2023. Rumana has over 13 years experiences of teaching, academic curriculum development and quality assurance in HE. She is experienced in delivering high quality teaching to both UG and PG students across countries. She brings an experienced global perspective and expertise in teaching, curriculum development, quality enhancement, leadership, teamwork, networking, student support and advising.
Rumana achieved her PhD in Accounting & Finance from the University of Newcastle, Australia in 2021. Her thesis studied the relationship between corporate fraud and board gender diversity. She received the prestigious Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) from the Australian Government for pursuing the PhD. Rumana completed MSc (Finance) from Lund University, Sweden in 2015, with the prestigious SISS (Swedish Institute Study Scholarship) from the Swedish Government. Rumana completed PGCERT in Advance HE from Coventry University with Distinction and was awarded with Fellowship (FHEA) in 2022.
Before joining Exeter, Rumana worked as a Lecturer in Finance at Coventry University, where she led diverse range of finance modules with large student cohorts and received 100% student satisfaction scores consecutively four times. She also supervised UG and PG dissertations and participated in curriculum development of several core finance modules. Before joining Coventry University, she worked as Sessional Lecturer at the University of Newcastle, Australia for four years during her PhD, where she led and taught UG and PG finance modules. Rumana also worked as Lecturer and Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. In addition to academic roles, Rumana also worked as ‘Recruitment and Marketing Lead’ at the School of Economics Finance and Accounting at Coventry University. She received nomination for the award “Raising the profile and the reputation of the school” for her efforts in the role.
Rumana’s research interest focuses on the role of women and gender diversity in various aspects of corporate finance and corporate governance. Rumana describes herself to be friendly, communicative, progressive and an avid traveller.
