Dr Stephen Taylor is an Associate Professor in Human Resource Management at the University of Exeter Business School. He previously held lecturing posts at Manchester Business School and at the Manchester Metropolitan University Business School. Before his academic career he worked in a variety of management roles in the hotel industry and in the NHS.
Stephen was a Chief Examiner for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and is now one of their Chief Moderators.
He teaches employment law, employee resourcing, employee relations, international HRM and the business context at postgraduate and undergraduate level. Research interests include employee retention, the careers of elite politicians, occupational pensions and regulatory issues.
He is the author / co-author of several books including nine editions of 'People Resourcing / 'Resourcing & Talent Management', six editions of 'Employment Law: An Introduction' (with Astra Emir), 'The Employee Retention Handbook' and nine editions of 'Human Resource Management' (with Derek Torrington, Laura Hall and Carol Atkinson) and 'Contemporary Issues in Human Resource Management'. He has edited and co-written three editions of 'Studying HRM' and 'HRM: People and Organisations' with Carol Woodhams. A new book entitled 'Work and Employment in a Changing Business Context' co-authored with Graham Perkins was published in 2021.
He represents parties in employment tribunals, carries out employment law training and speaks at business events in the UK and Europe.
