Mrs Nicky Thomas

Senior Lecturer
Finance and Accounting

Nicky joined the University of Exeter business school in 2010, having previously worked as a tax professional for Lloyds Banking Group and KPMG. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Authority as well as a Fellow & Chartered Accountant with ICAEW.

Nicky teaches UK taxation and runs the Business School's With Industrial Experience programme.

Nicky is passionate about helping students develop their skills for the future of work.

Drawing on her experience of working in the tax profession, together with her previous involvement with graduate recruitment, interviewing and training; Nicky innovatively designs classes which enable students to apply their tax knowledge and to develop their professional skills through assimilated real life scenarios.  Nicky co-authors two tax textbooks published by Fiscal Publications, with links to the current editions shown in the research section.

As Programme Director for the Business School’s WIE “With Industrial Experience” programme, Nicky designs and leads the students’ skills development, assessment and support for the “industrial experience” element on Exeter Business School’s four year WIE programmes (currently 1000 students enrolled). She also collaborates with the employability team to design support and the students’ employability skills development and WIE support community throughout the four year programme.
