Loukas joined the School of Economics in 2022 and has been Head of the Economics Department since January 2023. Before that, he was Professor of Experimental Economics at the University of Innsbruck (where he still holds a part-time position). He has held several positions in academic administration, including Head of the Department of Public Finance and Chair of the Faculty Board in Innsbruck. He obtained his PhD in Economics from the University of Edinburgh, has taught in a number of European universities, and also worked for the OECD Development Centre.
Loukas has been one of the co-founders of the Special Research Area on Credence Goods, Incentives and Behavior, based at the University of Innsbruck. Between 2018 and 2022, he was Chair of the board of the Diligentia Foundation for Empirical Research, and a board member of the Austrian Economic Association.
His research uses primarily empirical and experimental methods to address diverse topics, related (among others) to determinants of (un)ethical behavior, asymmetric information and markets for credence goods, gender quotas, social norms, and forces that drive social inclusion and exclusion.
