Innovation Technology and Entrepreneurship
Dr Ji Han holds an Associate Professor (Reader) position in Design and Innovation at the University of Exeter. His research interests involve design creativity, computational creativity, data-driven design, AI in design and design sustainability. His research addresses various topics relating to design creativity and innovation, and places a strong emphasis on exploring new design theories and computational models to support innovation. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed academic papers to date and attracted over 2,000 citations. He has been listed as one of the World's Top 2% Scientists in the field of Design Practice and Management by Stanford University in the Year 2024.
Prior to joining the University of Exeter as a Senior Lecturer in 2022, he worked at the University of Liverpool as a Lecturer in Industrial Design at the School of Engineering. He completed his PhD in Design Engineering at the Dyson School of Design Engineering, Imperial College London and an MSc in Engineering Design at the University of Bath.
Dr Ji Han has a funding record of over £13M and is currently a Co-I of the £12.7M EPSRC funded Research Centre DIGIT for accelerating the responsible application of digital technology (EP/T022566/1), a Co-I of the £200k NIHR/EPSRC funded project on patient-centric healthcare (NIHR157673), and a Co-I of the £100k Innovation Launchpad Network+ funded project on AI and data in design (RIR26F230609-1).
He is also a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE), a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
