In the classroom, Tausif values fostering curiosity by linking academic research to applied experiences. Tausif was awarded the Outstanding Teaching Award in Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship in 2023-24 in recognition of his innovative, impact-driven teaching. He believes that learning about innovation in the 21st century is one of the greatest challenges students can undertake as it demands an appreciation of diverse perspectives, including economics, ethics, psychology and geopolitics.
Tausif's research is interdisciplinary. The underlying theme of his research interests is a quest to gain a deeper understanding of advanced technologies such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence through strategy, policy and geopolitical perspectives. His ongoing projects investigate the processes through which firms and nations acquire and maintain 'technological sovereignty'. He examines how geopolitically driven rules (e.g., sanctions and export controls) are transmitted through lead firms’ global production networks and how they (re)shape the innovation strategies of embedded small- and medium-sized firms. Tausif's academic research has been published in Technological Forecasting and Social Change and Science and Public Policy as well as practitioner research in OECD Policy Papers.
A biochemist by training, Tausif held corporate strategy and growth ventures roles at Monsanto India, where his work in the areas of gene editing, agricultural microbials and RNA interference technologies contributed to several R&D collaborations and a ~$1 billion acquisition. Tausif also gained experience as a finance project manager at Nissan Europe, driving economic performance of vehicle programmes from concept to launch through business case development, risk analysis and profitability optimisation. Between these experiences, he completed his MBA at UEBS, graduating with distinction. During his MBA, Tausif was awarded the One Planet MBA 5th Anniversary Award by UEBS and the Chevening Scholarship - the UK Government’s flagship programme for international students. He subsequently completed his PhD from the Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, focusing on technology adoption by aerospace and automotive small- and medium-sized firms.
