Kate Northover is an Associate Lecturer in Business (Education and Scholarship) at the University of Exeter, specialising in employability, placement-based learning, and student development. Her work focuses on designing curriculum based in practice and experiential learning, supporting students to develop their confidence, build a professional identity, and learn real-world capability.
As module lead for Business Practice and Analysis, a core first-year module on the BSc Business programme, she has led a significant redesign of teaching, assessment and placement integration. This work has strengthened student engagement, improved clarity around assessment and progression, and supported consistently strong placement outcomes, working with students to build projects aligned to their skills and interests.
Her teaching is underpinned by inclusive, evidence-informed pedagogy, with a particular focus on supporting students in transition into higher education. Through structured, interactive learning environments, she supports the development of self-efficacy, reflective capability, and confidence in navigating professional contexts.
