About me:

Erno Tornikoski joined the University of Exeter in March 2019. His research interests involve the application of psychological and sociological theories, and both qualitative and quantitative methods to entrepreneurship to investigate how enterprising individuals transform entrepreneurial ideas into value creating new activities. Erno has a particular interest in gestation activities, decision-making logics, the construct of control, and qualitative process studies. In addition, he is exploring new research ideas connecting entrepreneurship and the following topics: sustainable value creation, community-based resilience, and frugal innovations. Erno's research has appeared in Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Journal of Small Business Management, and International Small Business Journal, among others.

Nationality: Finnish

Interests:
  • New venture creation
  • Effectual entrepreneurial process
  • Sustainablity and Innovation

I focus on the new business creation process, and especially the nascent activities of individuals who are in the process of starting new businesses. I use several theoretical approaches to investigate and understand this crucial period of new business creation, such as Effectuation, Legitimacy, Personal networks, and Initial conditions. Empirically I have been generalist in entrepreneurship, and more recently starting to direct my research more and more towards sustainable based innovations. Methodologically I have been using variance models (theory testing), more recently I have built an interest and curiosity towards qualitative process studies (theory generation), which I intend to focus more and more during the coming years.
