Overview

Peta is a Senior Lecturer in Finance and Accounting, with a teaching focus on the first year Financial Accounting cohort. She is also the departmental Director for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, as well as the Widening Participation Lead.

Having taught Financial Accounting to first year students for almost twenty years, Peta was previously nominated for the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award for these engagements.

Having a focus of creating an environment that facilitates learning for students, while wanting to understanding what it was that students struggle with in their attempts to gain understanding accounting, led to Peta's doctoral study which was a qualitative investigation into what helped and what hindered students in their journey through a four-year professional accounting programme.

This research also led to a better informed understanding of EDI issues that staff and students encounter at a Higher Education Institution.

Teaching

Peta is accustomed to teaching large first year classes, and yet working to create an interactive space for students to be engaged learners within what can be a slightly alienating space.

She has also taught at postgraduate level, introducing journalists to the intricacies of financial accounting.
