About me:
Peta is the departmental Director for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, having previously been the Widening Participation Academic Lead.
She is a Senior Lecturer in Finance and Accounting, with a focus of teaching the first year Financial Accounting and business orientated Accounting cohorts. Having taught Financial Accounting to first year students for more than twenty years, Peta was previously nominated for the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award for these engagements.
Peta's doctoral study which was a qualitative investigation into what helped and what hindered students in their journey through a four-year professional accounting programme which provides insight into the importance of creating an environment that facilitates learning for students, while trying to understand what it is that students struggle with in their attempts to gain an understanding of accounting principles and standards.
This doctoral study, underpinned by the principle of social justice, provided insights into the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion challenges that staff and students encounter at Higher Education Institutions and continues to inform her research insterests.
Peta has also taught on the Help 2 Grow Executive Education Series for the University of Exeter.
