Christopher is an agricultural economist and climate scientist, specialising in land use policy design for climate change adaptation and mitigation.  He works closely with UK Government policymakers to translate farm business modelling and natural science expertise into practical land use policy.

Christopher’s research and policy work centres on spatial modelling of farm businesses, exploring the link between food production, farm business incomes and viability, and the potential impacts and benefits of agricultural land use change.  He designed and built the Land Use x (LUx) agriculture model, which is used by Defra to design their Environmental Land Management scheme.  His work also tackles the challenge of land use change resilience, developing approaches that account for the range of possible futures our rural landscapes may need to cope with.

Christopher is a an Agricultural Valuer; and co-lead of the Land Use Change advisory group of the Land Use for Net Zero Hub.
