About me:

 

Carlos Cortinhas is an Associate Professor in Economics at the University of Exeter Business School and Subject Lead for Pedagogy in the Department of Economics. His recent work focuses on economics education, including innovative teaching practice, student engagement, assessment, and evidence-based approaches to improving learning.

 

Carlos completed his PhD in Economics at the University of Exeter in 2007, supervised by John Maloney, Malcolm Macmillen and Nigar Hashimzade. He previously completed an MSc at Kobe University, Japan, under the supervision of Shoji Nishijima. Before entering academia, he worked in banking for the Industrial Bank of Japan in Tokyo and in government institutions, including the Ministry for the Economy and Innovation in Portugal.

 

He is a contributor to the CORE Econ Project (CORE Econ), an Associate of the Economics Network (EN) and the Centre for Teaching and Learning in Economics (CTaLE), and a member of the Steering Group of the British Conference of Undergraduate Research (BCUR). In June 2026, Carlos was appointed Co-Chair, of the Economic Education Network for Experiments (EENE)’ Review Committee.
