Overview

Thomas is a senior lecturer in the  Degree Apprenticeship Department, teaching Finance and Banking modules on the Level 4 Investment Operations Degree Apprenticeship and on the Level 6 Financial Services Professional DA. He currently serves as programme director for the Investment Operations Specialist Degree Apprenticeship programme, and acted as the Advanced Teaching Practitioner in Digital for the DA department. Thomas also  supports teaching on the Exeter MBA's 'Sustainable Finance' module.

He joined the Business School in 2017 lecturing Finance to undergraduate students. In 2018, Thomas joined the Senior Leadership Degree Apprenticeship team (MBA) as an Academic Mentor and also mentors apprentices on the Financial Services Professional Apprenticeship programme (BSc Applied Finance). 

Thomas has supervised numerous UG and PGT dissertations and MBA consultancy projects. He also works as a mentor/assessor for the Aspire PRP pathway programme supporting colleagues with their HEA fellowship applications. Thomas also serves as the External Examiner for Bournemouth University's full-time MBA programme and their Senior Leader Degree Apprenticeship provision.

Previously Thomas held various positions in capital markets, where he worked in sales and trading in Fixed Income, Equities and Derivatives departments at various banks. Thomas was employed by Finacor, Delta Lloyd and Fortisbank, before moving to NYC as a senior equity derivatives broker working for ICAP in 2003. In 2005, Thomas joined Exane BNP Paribas as a Managing Director in their Paris office, heading sales-trading activities in Variance Swaps and US listed / OTC equity options. In 2008, Thomas was seconded to NYC where he focused on expanding the sales and trading desk in US equity derivatives.

Thomas retired from Wall Street in 2016 and was awarded his MBA from the University of Exeter with distinction in 2017. He is also a Senior Fellow of the HEA and holds a PG Cert in Academic Practice. Currently Thomas is pursuing a Professional Doctorate in Eduction (EdD) at the University of Portsmouth.

Thomas was awarded Chartered Manager status by CMI and also holds Series 7 and 63 qualifications in the USA. Thomas is also an Fellow of the HEA. As a Belgian native, he is also fluent in Dutch, French and English.

Thomas is currently working towards his EdD at the University of Portsmouth focusing on how Degree Apprenticehips meet skills gaps requirements in the UK Financial Sector.
