Mario is currently employed as a Research Fellow at the Business School. His work focuses on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) and Innovation for Sustainability. He gained a PhD in Management at the University of Exeter Business School in 2015. His thesis focused on the discourses of innovation and development with a particular interest for emerging and developing countries. He came back to Exeter after completing a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Post-Doctoral fellowship at the ‘Academy of Business in Society’ in Brussels.

As a graduate of University Federico II of Naples in Electronic and Telecommunication engineering, at the beginning of his career, he worked on the management and prevention of natural disasters in Developing Countries through remote sensing instruments and as telecommunication consultant. He spent two years in Bolivia working in the field of renewable energy for remote rural areas. Most recently, he came back to academia working as a project manager of R&D projects funded by European Commission at Polytechnic University of Madrid.

He earned a Master’s degree in Economics and Management of Innovation at the Polytechnic University of Madrid in collaboration with Autonomous University of Madrid and Complutense University in 2009. He also delved into Economic of Innovation and Science and Technology policy at Aalborg University in Denmark. His primary research interest is sustainable and ecological transition and the critique of the Development Discourse and Growth. He is particular interested in the dynamics of innovation in emerging economies, appropriate technologies and grassroots and social innovations.
