AI and Education Statements
We foster the ideas and support our people to lead responsibly in a world of Artificial Intelligence.
The AI and Education Statement has been developed in line with the University of Exeter’s Enabling AI Strategy, reflecting the University’s commitment to the responsible and sustainable use of AI.
We want our graduates to lead the future, not just adapt to it. As AI changes the world of work, our School is redefining business education following these five guiding principles (GPs):
In this section

AI as a Structural Shift, Not a Tool (GP1)
AI is not a technical add-on; it is a fundamental force redefining organisational purpose, logic and value creation. We integrate and engage AI across disciplines, considering how these are being impacted by AI, rather than treating it as an isolated subject. Our goal is to equip students to navigate the economic and social transformations AI triggers, preparing them to lead the world it creates.

Synthesising Human Judgment with AI Capability (GP2)
We prioritise the "human premium" – the critical skills technology cannot replicate. Our programmes train students to respect intellectual property and to work in a creative dialogue with AI by assessing AI outputs critically, prompting AI skilfully, and identifying exactly where human oversight adds value. We want graduates to understand where human judgment is most important so they can lead effectively while using AI.

Human-Centred, AI-Empowered Pedagogy (GP3)
We leverage AI for personalised, interactive learning. However, we prioritise in-person time for group discussions, collective problem solving and teamwork. We continually adapt our assessment methods to ensure students truly understand their subjects and can work with AI without depending on it too much.

Adapting for Innovation and Change (GP4)
Tools are fleeting; literacy is permanent. We focus on fostering the resilience, curiosity, and critical thinking needed to thrive in a changing world. Our graduates are trained to innovate, spot emerging opportunities and reinvent their skill sets continually throughout their careers.
