It is vitally important that we have secure and reliable means by which to contact you. Primary responsibility for ensuring this lies with you.

You must ensure that the University’s Student Records Office and the PGR Support team has accurate information about your whereabouts and the best means to contact you if necessary, for example if you are away on fieldwork. You are responsible for keeping your contact details up to date via iExeter

Administrative and academic staff make every effort to reply quickly to enquiries, and we expect that students will in turn make sure that they check their Exeter email account regularly for communications and reply promptly.

Email

Email is the main form of communication that we will use to contact you. All registered students automatically receive an email account and an @exeter.ac.uk address which can be accessed anywhere in the world with an internet connection. Your University of Exeter email can be accessed via Office 365 or iExeter.

It is University policy that communication with students via email can only be conducted via their University email address. No alternative email address will be used. Members of staff who are also students will be contacted via their student account, not their staff account. It is therefore very important that you check your University student email regularly.  If you normally use a different email address then you should set up an email forwarding action to ensure that you do not miss important messages from the University.

When emailing the PGR Support Team, please use the office email:

Exeter: uebs-pgradmin@exeter.ac.uk Cornwall: cornwall-pgr@exeter.ac.uk

We ask that you DO NOT email individual colleagues, which can result in a delay to responses.

Letters and telephone contacts

We may also need to write to you at a home address or to make a telephone call. This is particularly important when students are absent from the University or based at a distance from Exeter. For this reason it is absolutely vital that you maintain accurate and up to date contact details through iExeter.

Incoming mail

Internal and external mail must be marked for your attention and can be delivered to the PGR study space in Hope Hall:

University of Exeter
Hope Hall, Postgraduate Research Centre
Prince of Wales Road
Exeter

EX4 4PL

Items that do not relate to your research should be delivered to your home address wherever possible. If you must order something large to be delivered to the University, you must first inform the team at Building:One so that they can contact you when it arrives, and you will be emailed to arrange collection.

The University of Exeter Doctoral College stimulates, supports and sustains a vibrant research and intellectual environment across and between disciplines for postgraduate and early career researchers. Focusing on investment and development in training, resources and facilities, the Doctoral College provides an outstanding quality experience for those in the early stages of their research careers.

"Welcome to the University of Exeter and our Doctoral College. We are the fastest growing research intensive university in the UK, ranked 16th out of 134 universities in the most recent national Research Excellence Framework (REF), taking account of our quality and the proportion of staff submitted.

The Doctoral College aims to provide first-class support to postgraduate research students and postdoctoral (or ‘early career’) researchers. We aim to manage the application process in a sensitive and transparent way, and to create a research culture within which all researchers fulfil their potential. We are aware that our researchers come to us from diverse backgrounds and bring different ambitions, but are united in a commitment to producing research – and developing researchers – of the highest quality.

Many universities talk about the strength of their research, but few can offer our high performance across a wide range of subjects. We’re proud to have performed above the Russell Group average in the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey 2021, and we’re always looking for ways of improving. We’re delighted that so many researchers choose to join our community, and make Exeter or Cornwall their home."

Professor Andrew McRae - Dean of Postgraduate Research and of the Doctoral College

Student Information Desk (SID) is the way to access student support information, and get answers to your questions – they can either be visited in person, by phone or online.
