Further details

We experimentally study how the transition to online education affects student performance, effort, social interactions and evaluations of teaching. Our RCT randomizes students into live and online attendance of university lectures on a rotating schedule. The shift to online education harms performance of students with low conscientiousness and leaves other students unaffected. Shifting to online lectures reduces student friendships and peer-to-peer interaction.
