Exeter Centre of Leadership Research talk (online): Leadership Reimagined: A Focus on Relationships, Emotions and Equality
The future of leadership looks different from what has been the norm in the last 100 years -- Dominant leadership theories were built in the early and mid 19th century when Industrialization was the norm and the business/global world was recovering from two world wars. The future will call for a balanced view of leadership focused on all stakeholders. My talk will briefly touch upon three areas that are critical to such a future: Relationships, emotion management and valuing equality. In order to enact this future of leadership, I show how a) emotions are an integral part of leadership, b) relationship building is a core capacity of effective leaders, and c) advances in methods (e.g., modeling actual leader behavior in a dynamic fashion) will lead to leadership theories that do not privilege prevailing prototypes.
