Business School student wins TARGETjobs 'Male Undergraduate of the Year'
Business Economics student Edward Ashton Johnson won the TARGETjobs 'Male Undergraduate of the Year' award for entrepreneurial endeavour.
A University of Exeter Business School undergraduate has won TARGETjobs ‘The Male Undergraduate of the Year Award' sponsored by L’Oréal. Edward Ashton Johnson, studying Business Economics, has been involved in several entrepreneurial ventures including a chatbot that promotes local discounts to students, a Valentine's Day flower delivery service and an events company called Cucucachoo, as well as acting as the head of finance for the Exeter Entrepreneurs Society. AJ has also developed his business prowess through running events for companies including a peach beer company and a clothing brand.
The demanding award criteria include; being on track for a 2:1 or above, demonstrating ambition and possession of business acumen, as well as resilience towards demanding goals within the fast-paced environment that L’Oréal operates in. The award is either a year long placement with L’Oréal or a 10 week summer internship.
AJ welcomed the award, saying "We have so much time at University and if we choose to utilise it we can achieve some pretty cool things. The award is a nice recognition of my efforts but they are still pretty minimal... if you think small, you’ll be small. So, think big!"
Two other BSc Business Economics students, Christo Nation and Harry Caro, were finalists for ‘The Future CFO of the Year Award, sponsored by ACCA’ and ‘The Male Undergraduate of the Year Award, sponsored by L’Oreal’.
The TARGETjobs awards were set up to identify and celebrate the UK’s best undergraduates. This means having a combination of academic excellence, the ability to pass a series of difficult online assessments, good written communication and, finally, the interpersonal skills necessary to compete with other students in assessment centres run by the sponsoring organisations.
