Module description
This module provides the opportunity for postgraduate taught students to engage in a sustain period of critical and independent study. The module is core for all students registered on the MSc International Management (with European Study) programme.

Module aims
The aim of the module is to provide an opportunity for students to engage in a period of sustained study on a topic of their choice which has to be agreed with an academic advisor (e.g. the PGT WES study abroad co-ordinator. The independent study project should be pursued in the context of the students’ individual programme of study and/or study abroad experience. The nature of the project will vary according to the students’ focus and could take many forms: for example, it could involve a critical reflection on the study abroad experience with particular focus on the student’s educational, personal and career development, or it could involve a case study of a company/key sector, etc.
The distinctive features of this module can be summarised as follows:
1) Addressing QAA Master in Business and Management benchmarking in relation to the need to develop subject knowledge and understanding about the external context including an international dimension [3.5], globalization (growth in international business, intercultural perspective) [3.12], and personal and interpersonal skills, including critical self-awareness and self-reflection [3.13]
2) Encourage students to reflect on a particular issue in depth, and relate this reflection to prior studies and/or their personal and career development.
