South West businesses explore Innovation in Big Data at the Business Leaders Forum

The second Business Leaders Forum event of 2015/16 saw three regional experts give their views on Innovation in Big Data from 3 different perspectives.

Dr Alberto Arribas (Head of the Informatics Lab and Science Fellow at the Met Office), Mark Bainbridge (Business Development Director at Black Swan Data Limited) and Joss Langford (Co-Founder of Coelition) all gave informative presentations, kicking off the evening’s discussion.

The topics covered included how data is making a difference in diagnostics for the good of Humankind, the Internet of Things, wearables, barriers to market innovation such as trust and privacy, and the development of a 4D web browser visualisation for high-resolution numerical weather prediction data.

Sean Fielding, Director of Research and Knowledge Transfer at the University of Exeter, hosted the dinner event at Holland Hall on Exeter’s Streatham campus. Guests, including Business Leaders Forum members, Academic University Staff and Corporate Partners, networked with refreshments before being seated for a 2-course dinner, presentations from the speakers and an interactive Q&A session.

The Business Leaders Forum is a premier networking group for senior business people in the South West. It is aimed primarily at senior management and is a membership-based organisation that enables people to stay up-to-date with current trends in business. The Forum also provides an invaluable means of exchanging knowledge and developing ideas through business peers and leading academics.

The next Business Leaders Forum event takes on Tuesday 12th April 2016, so please save the date in your calendars. Further details to be confirmed.
