Exeter’s high rankings played a part in Pranav’s decision to come and study at Exeter, but it was the University’s focus on continual improvement that particularly appealed to him.

“The University of Exeter Business School ranks highly in the league tables, but it was seeing the lengths that the University goes to in reaching out to students and making sure that they have the best possible experience that confirmed my decision to want to come here. The support services, the facilities and the surroundings are all fantastic, and provide a wonderful atmosphere for learning and for immersing yourself in your chosen area of study.

I am completing a Masters in International Management, a subject I was interested in having worked for a number of years in my family’s steel business in India. After completing a summer course at LSE in London, I was keen to stay in the UK to do some postgraduate study, and felt that Exeter would be a good decision because of the focus on student satisfaction and also the excellent future prospects that come with being a graduate from here.

Overall, my experience so far has been excellent. I am especially enjoying the tutorials and my Marketing module specifically. Being able to learn in smaller groups means we have the chance to interact more with each other, and exchange ideas. Studying at this level is not just about gaining a solid understanding of the relevant theories – we also need to learn how to apply those theories to real business scenarios, and that’s very much the focus of the marketing assignments we are working on.

In my opinion, the best thing about studying at the Business School is the freedom to share ideas, both with my fellow students and with the experienced academics who work here. We have the opportunity to hear from high quality guest lecturers as well, so we gain a lot of exposure to different subjects and perspectives on the course.

My aim, at the end of my studies, is to return to India to help expand my family’s business. Due to the diversity of students here, I have been able to understand and appreciate a wide range of different perspectives, which I think will come in useful when it comes to our expansion. Self-reliance is also one of the key learnings I will be taking away with me. You have to develop confidence in your own abilities and ideas as a postgraduate student, and studying here has given me the space and support to do that successfully.”
