A growing body of research argues that there are multiple dimensions to the concept of reputation. However, our understanding of how these dimensions interact and with what consequences for an organisation’s reputation remains poorly understood. Studying two phases of reputation building, we build from existing theory to explore empirically how the reputational dimensions of quality, prominence and favourability interact via processes of amplifying, channelling, adapting and rerouting reputational activities. These processes are underpinned by a combination of plausible expertise claims, forms of celebrity and strong relationships. From these findings we contribute to the literature on reputation by explicating how and why patterns of interaction occur and how external context mediates these patterns.
