Lynne Oats is a Professor of Taxation and Accounting, University of Exeter Business School and Vice Chair of the UK Tax Research Network. Before moving to Exeter, she spent eight years at the University of Warwick, three years at Sheffield Hallam University, and ten years at Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia. Lynne also worked for the Australian Taxation Office for ten years prior to moving to academia, and is a professionally qualified accountant. Lynne is currently an ESRC Academic Advisor to the HMRC Tax Opinions Panel Survey project and has previously participated in the design and delivery of the Tax Development Programme for HMT’s Budget Tax and Welfare Directorate.
Lynne is Assistant Editor (Accounting) of British Tax Review, and has published widely in the accounting and taxation fields. Her research interests include tax administration and taxation policy from both contemporary and historical perspectives. She is co-author of Taxation Policy and Practice (Fiscal Publications), now in its 19th edition, Principles of International Taxation (Bloomsbury Professional Publishing) and Accounting Principles for Tax Purposes (Bloomsbury Professional Publishing). Lynne’s 2012 edited book Taxation: A Fieldwork Research Handbook (Routledge) contains contributions from tax scholars from across the globe.
