Mike is an NHS Research Fellow attached to the Institute whilst undertaking a PhD looking at how system design and process reliability can improve patient safety in the complex environment of NHS hospitals. He graduated from Exeter with a BA in 1986 and London with an MA in 2002 and has spent most of his time in management within the NHS including being the Chief Executive of NHS Trusts in Oxford and Taunton. He has developed an expertise, in conjunction with the Goldratt Group, of applying the Theory of Constraints in healthcare with some applications now being used worldwide.
Mike is also interested in how leaders make a difference in organisations and has taught leadership to a range of public and voluntary sector staff.
