Career

Tania’s professional career has been mainly in the voluntary and public services sector. She graduated from Exeter University in 1983 with a degree in Social Studies and later a Masters degree in Theology. In June 2000, she accepted the post of Director of the Exeter Community Family Trust, a charity set up to provide relationship skills training for couples and families and she is presently chair of the trustees. After working with a range of public sector clients as a coach, Tania joined Devon and Cornwall Constabulary in 2005. Initially she was involved in overseeing the quality of staff and officer training. She is currently responsible for the leadership development and coaching of senior leaders. She recently launched her own freelance career in the coaching and development of public, voluntary and private sector leaders.

Consulting career

Tania worked as a voluntary consultant with the National Association of Community Family Trusts during her time as Director of the Exeter Community Family Trust. Her focus was on enabling local trusts across the country to develop relationship skills programmes for couples and this included some pioneering couples work in prisons. Within the South West, Tania set up one of the first couple mentoring schemes to receive recognised accreditation and continues to oversee both the couple mentoring and marriage preparation and enrichment training programmes. After working with a range of public sector clients as a development coach, she joined Devon and Cornwall Constabulary in 2005 and is currently responsible for the leadership development of senior leaders throughout Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. She now, in addition to this role, offers leadership development opportunities in the voluntary, public and private sector in a freelance capacity.

Main types of role with clients

Tania works as a leadership trainer, advisor and development coach within the police service and as a freelance leadership consultant and development coach. Her clients include senior police officers and staff, senior leaders in local government, and international charities.

Main activities + with whom:

Leadership training: Within the Police service, Tania designs bespoke leadership training for managers and senior leaders as well as facilitating the Franklin Covey seven habits programme for managers and affiliates. In the voluntary sector, Tania has designed and delivered leadership training programmes for local church groups and international charities and now works more widely in the public, voluntary and private sector.

Coaching and mentoring: Tania has designed and delivered mentor training within Devon and Cornwall Constabulary and co-ordinates the force-wide coaching and mentoring programmes. She coaches senior leaders within the constabulary and has also designed and delivered a coaching programme for work based coaches (operational sergeants) as well as a force-wide coaching programme for line managers. In the voluntary sector, Tania trains marriage mentors as part of a local community family project and directs a community mentoring programme. She also coaches leaders in the voluntary, public and private sector.

Facilitation: Tania is an action learning set facilitator and also facilitates community and team building events within the constabulary and in the wider public and voluntary sector.
