Information for new undergraduate students

Welcome!

Welcome to the University of Exeter Business School. You are joining a School that has an excellent record in teaching and research, and we will do everything we can to make your time with us both successful and enjoyable.

It is important that you read through the following information, so that you will be prepared for when you begin your degree with us.

University Registration and Freshers’ Week

Freshers' Week begins on Saturday 15th September. All new students are expected to be on campus by Monday 17th September.

You will soon be receiving information about your arrival from the University, including details on how to register. Further information can be found on the Information for New students 2012/13 webpage.

If you are an international student you will need to make sure you register with the University promptly so that you gain all of your IT access, to register on your programme and your modules. For more information about your arrival for international students please take a look at the International Students’ Freshers’ Week Programme 2012 on the Orientation and registration page.

Business School Welcome Events

There are two main School events for new undergraduates during Freshers’ Week:

  • On Tuesday 18th September we will be holding Discipline Welcome Talks which will give you important information about your programme
  • On Thursday 20th September, there will be Welcome and Induction talks. These will include important information about facilities and support available within the School.

It is very important that you attend both of these sessions. Please view the Freshers' Week Talk Schedule here.

At these talks you will get opportunities to meet your Academic Team, as well as the Student and Education Services Team, and receive important information about the Business School and the processes that you will be experiencing throughout your degree. It will also give you an opportunity to meet others on your programme.

In addition to the week’s academic events, there will be several information stands and various fun activities happening in Xfi:

In the Xfi Atrium:
9.00 – 5.00, Monday 17 September to Thursday 20 September, and  9.00 – 3.00 on Friday 21 September
Information on programmes and modules, as well as a timetable helpdesk and a general enquiry point.

In the Xfi Marquee:
9.00 – 12.30 Wednesday 19 September to Friday 21 September:
Information on Employability, International Development and Societies.

9.00 – 12.30 Thursday 20 and Friday 21 September
Wellbeing Services will be here to help you with any questions you may have about your emotional and physical health.

Module Selection

You will be able to start selecting your module choices for this year online from the 23rd August. Instructions on how to do this can be found here: Choosing your modules. More detailed guidance can be found here: Online module choice guidance. We strongly advise you to complete your module selection by Friday 21st September, to ensure that you get your first choice. Online module registration closes on Friday 28th September.

Please note: Students entering directly into Year Two will not be able to choose their modules online. Please send your module choices in an email to business-school-ses@exeter.ac.uk with the words ‘Direct Entry Second Year Modules’ in the subject heading.

Incoming Exchange Students

You will be emailed by the University of Exeter Business School International Development Team with details of your registration sessions. The International Development Team can be contacted at Business-School-Exchanges@exeter.ac.uk.

Combined and Flexible Combined Honours Students

For those of you that will be studying combined or flexible combined honours programmes, please make sure that you look at the other college’s websites to ensure that you do not miss any important information that is given out by the different colleges.

For those doing combined Politics degrees you will find an abundance of information available to you on the Information for new students page on the Politics website, and for those on flexible combined honours programmes please have a look at their website so that you are familiar with their arrangements. We have ensured that there are no major clashes in Welcome Week but should you feel that you need more information do not hesitate to contact either colleges that you are learning with.

Timetable

Timetables will be available to you from 10th September. Please be aware that until you have registered with the University, you will not be able to access your timetable.

Please note: When you first view your timetable, you may only be able to see your compulsory modules. Once you have chosen your electives, staff will start entering this information on to your timetable, but there will be a delay before you can see your completed timetable.

Lectures start at 9.00 a.m. on Monday 24th September 2012. Please check your personal timetables to see where you are supposed to be once teaching starts. If you have any queries, please just speak to one of the Student Services Assistants.

iExeter is a free app that provides all current and prospective students with personalised information and services to help you make the most of your life and studies at The University of Exeter.  It includes useful information such as your personalised timetable, your library account, maps to help you find your way around campus, all the information you will need for Freshers Week - including checklists and events and much much more.  Visit the iExeter webpage to find out more and to download the app.

Late Arrivals

All new students are expected to be on campus by Monday 17th September. If you have any concerns about getting here by this date, please seek advice from the Student and Education Services Team at business-school-ses@exeter.ac.uk. Please include your programme of study in your email.
