Careers Service wins prestigious award for its work supporting Chinese students.

The University of Exeter Careers Service has been highly praised for its work supporting Chinese students.

This academic year Exeter has received three major accolades for its work supporting Chinese students’ careers and employability skills: an international award, finalist in a prestigious national award, and selected to appear at an international conference to talk about our award winning work.

Our Careers Service was a top four finalist in the ‘Institute of Student Employers: Best Preparation for Work’ category. It is an extremely competitive national award and we are delighted to have been selected as a finalist. The award recognises the ground breaking programme  that Exeter's Careers Service has developed solely for Chinese students, with bespoke lectures and support with the UK and Chinese recruitment processes.

Following this success the University then won the GUCCU (Global Universities China Career Union) award for ‘Most Proactive University Careers Service’, for the innovative methods used to support Chinese students with their careers. Cat Holt, one of the Business School's postgraduate careers consultants was asked to deliver a key speech at the GUCCU conference in April speaking to 50 delegates representing 40 international universities about the highly regarded work she has been delivering for Chinese students.

The GUCCU provided a statement about the award: 'The University of Exeter takes the initiative, actively seeks cooperation with Chinese enterprises, and effectively helps Chinese graduates with their employment. As a result of the efforts of your Career Service, your students have always been kept active with opening positions. Your university also has the world's leading professionalism, strong discipline and excellent reputation in the recruitment industry in China. Your diligence and commitment have certainly paid off.'‌

Cat Holt, commented: I am extremely proud that the University of Exeter Careers Service has been recognised for the support we have developed for Chinese students. The students really engaged with the programme, the lectures were fully booked and students said that they felt more knowledgeable about the recruitment process in both the UK and China. The Programme has been a great addition to the support we already provide international students and supplements the initiatives for Chinese Alumni such as the Exeter China Alumni Association employability events and annual GW4 China careers fairs.
