Students from the Business School win the ‘People’s Choice’ Award in the L'Oréal Brandstorm competition
Two awards were up for grabs in the recent national finals of the L'Oréal Brandstorm competition. A team from the Business School comprised of Alicia Albrecht, James Griffiths and Victoria Ivins were the delighted winners of the People’s Choice award.
A total of 75 teams from around the UK entered the marketing competition which included several taxing stages. The first hurdle was to submit a 20 page response to a case study which focussed on the Lancôme brand in the travel retail market.
Only eight teams made it through this stage and were invited to a briefing day at the company’s London office where they not only met brand managers but were also introduced to Lancôme’s advertising agency, TAG. Then each team had the opportunity to work for half a day at TAG and create two presentation boards, which would then be used during presentations on finals day.
On the big day itself, the eight teams presented to a judging panel of L’Oreal managers.
After this, it was time for the People’s Choice activity, where each team had to pitch its concept to the employees of L’Oréal, who then voted for the concept they liked the best.
Commenting on the experience Victoria Ivins said: “We are so thankful to have received so much recognition from all the L’Oreal employees. I really enjoyed the networking opportunities offered. Every step of the competition (briefing day, working with TAG agency, finals at L’Oreal UK HQ) was a great opportunity to learn more about L’Oréal as a business and its culture. It was an amazing journey and I would therefore recommend it to all Business School students at Exeter!’’
