Major milestone for Business School students on placement

For the first time ever, over 100 Business School students have secured 12-month industrial placements.

A total of 107 students are on placement during 2014/15 representing a significant increase on the previous three years when numbers gradually rose from 49 to 62 and then 67 in 2013/14. These placements are part of the increasingly popular “With Industrial Experience” pathway which is available on all of the School’s undergraduate programmes.

This step change follows the School’s investment in careers support and modifications made to the  placement preparation process.  However, it is also testimony to the quality of students studying at the Business School, and their professionalism and perseverance as they compete to be recruited by top graduate employers, including:

  • 3M
  • Accenture
  • Bank of England
  • Disney
  • General Motors UK
  • Goldman Sachs
  • IBM
  • JP Morgan
  • L’Oreal
  • Microsoft Limited
  • PWC
  • Rolls Royce plc
  • UBS
  • Waitrose

Elaine Dunn, Head of Careers & Alumni Relations said “Research shows that high quality relevant work experience plays a vital role in enabling students to secure a graduate job with leading  employers.  What’s more, returning placement students typically perform even better in their final year resulting in a higher degree classification.  Congratulations to all of our students who have secured placements , particularly with these prestigious companies!”

“I think doing an internship benefits you in lots of ways.” Said Iona Wark, placement student at Thompson, “Not only did it give me lots of examples to use in interviews for future jobs, it’s also given me an insight into the working world and helped me understand more about what I want from my career. I think working also gave me a better work ethic for my final year, I felt really motivated to go back and work hard so that I could get the best job possible when I finished.”

The Business School provides its students with first class teaching and dedicated career support, resulting in a very strong employability record with 84.7% of undergraduates securing graduate level employment or further study within six months of graduating.
