Professor Gordon Murray
Business School Professor Contributes to Important Government Review
The recent publication of Chris Rowland’s independent review into the availability of growth capital to small and medium sized businesses (SME’s) highlights the expertise of the Business School in this area.
Professor Gordon Murray, the only academic on the advisory group and a renowned expert in entrepreneurship and venture capital, commented on his involvement ‘I was delighted to be asked to join this review at a time when the ongoing financing of the SME sector is so important to the economic recovery. I think Chris Rowland’s recommendations address a very real problem and hope that the report prompts positive intervention.’
Gordon Brown welcomed the report and commented ‘“We are publishing today the Rowlands’ Report which shows that we have too many small and high growth companies that need capital to grow – and therefore better access to finance. Where there has been market failure in the past, our new innovation fund will provide support to high-tech start-up businesses growing to £1 billion as a fund over the coming years. And where there is a gap also in finance for companies looking to expand, we propose a Growth Capital Fund, a credible channel for private capital to invest in established and growing SMEs.”
