Business School Industrial Experience (Penryn)
Module description
This module allows you to undertake a year-long placement during the third year of a four year programme. You will be responsible for finding your own placement, having developed the careers management skills necessary for a competitive graduate labour market under BSD2002 and BSD1002.
The module provides an invaluable opportunity to put the theory learned during your first two years of study into practice in the workplace, whilst identifying the opportunities, issues and challenges of the working environment. The module structure provides a chance and the support for you to use personal development techniques to identify your strengths and weaknesses, to develop and extend your relevant work-based competencies, skills and knowledge.

Module aims
This module will permit students to study on a minimum 33 week placement during the third year of a 4 year programme. Placements are organised by the students, with School support, and must be approved by the Business School Careers Team in advance of placement start date.
The aims of the placement are to:
Develop and extend relevant work-based skills and knowledge;
Develop an understanding of work-place competencies and their significance in personal career development/progression;
Provide the opportunity for students to develop an understanding of a business environment through practical experience; to encompass NGOs, SMEs etc.
Gain experience in the use of technologies and applications commonly used in organisations;
Develop business awareness and acumen.

Re-assessment notes
Deferred students will be reassessed in the element that has been mitigated.
Students will be referred only if they achieve under 40% overall. If this is the case students will then be reassessed in any elements they have failed.
Please note if students do not achieve 40% on the reassessment attempt, they will be put on to the three year variant of their programme. This module will appear on your transcript as a fail and the student will no longer have ‘with Industrial Experience’ in their degree title.
