This module is designed to help you to broaden your understanding of the relationships between business and society through a focus on responsibility. Throughout the module you will be engaging in case study work, debate and independent research. Your adaptability will be assessed through exercises that will challenge you to examine Business and Society from a variety of perspectives.

Module aims

The aims of this module are to:

  • Develop a deeper understanding of the relationships between business and society
  • Explore emerging trends in the environment in which business operates
  • Consider the responsibilities of different groups and individuals in contemporary society

  • 1. explain the complexities that characterise the relationships between business and society at different levels of governance;
  • 2. analyse core concepts that relate to societal responsibility, including managers' liability; corporate governance; corporate responsibility' and corporate accountability;
  • 3. demonstrate awareness of the different areas of responsibility, including: individual, organisational, social and environmental..

  • 4. engage with different ways of understanding;
