Module description

This module is one of five modules included in the With Proficiency In (WPI) Entrepreneurship programme. 

Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of business in relation to new venture creation. This module is about the core aspects of business utilising the following subjects: accounting and finance, operations, business structures and types, talent management and marketing.

The module’s core component is delivered online covering the fundamentals of entrepreneurial businesses. This is built on in a series of practical tutorials. This will enable students to develop an appreciation for the world of entrepreneurship.

No pre-requisite or co-requisite modules are required to take this module. This module is suitable for non-specialist students and intended for interdisciplinary pathways.

Module aims

Syllabus plan

Online content will run simultaneously with the tutorial/lecture-based content.

The module will cover the following topics from the perspective of new venture creation: accounting and finance, operations, business structures and types, talent management and marketing. Utilising cases and contemporary business examples, the module will explore the essential business areas that help entrepreneurs create, grow, and manage business ventures. The online content will introduce each topic and the tutorials will cover the application of each of these topics.

Global challenges and organisational approaches to tackle them will be demonstrated using a diverse set of contexts. 

External Engagement: 

Contribution by our Student Startup team, Grad Startup community, and Entrepreneur Fellows will allow students to meet and network with the innovation ecosystem.

Employability: 

By honing effectuation, students will have the ability to create value within an organisation or through self-efficacy create their own venture.

Sustainability:

By understanding global challenges, participants are equipped to manage new ventures towards mitigating against the associated risks.
