Thomson Reuters

Working together in a variety of ways, Thomson Reuters and the Business School are creating a range of benefits and opportunities – not only for their respective organisations, but also for other businesses and individual students.

A flexible relationship

For several years, Thomson Reuters has collaborated with the Business School, and the approach has always been very open-minded. Delphine Jones, Head of Talent & Learning, Content, at Thomson Reuters, explains: “We meet up on a regular basis to talk about new developments, challenges and ideas – and this often leads to projects. The Business School has a strong external focus, and is very keen to engage with businesses like ours. It’s so much more than an academic institution.”

This close, exploratory partnership has led to a number of student initiatives, and several of the company’s leaders have taken MBAs and other Masters programmes at Exeter as part of their continuing professional development.

Providing access to vital data

Thomson Reuters has set up a ‘financial lab’ at the Business School, where students can access 15 of its information products. These include Reuters 3000 Xtra, a combination of financial news and insight, along with up-to-the-minute share trading information. Students can also look back at a wide variety of historical data, helping them achieve more on many of the School’s programmes.

Exchanging ideas and information

The partnership between Thomson Reuters and the Business School also creates networking opportunities for both organisations. For example, the Business Leader Forum, organised by the University, enables Thomson Reuters leaders to meet regularly with their counterparts from other organisations in the region. “This is just one of several ways the Business School introduces us to valuable contacts,” says Jones. “Talking to people who perform similar roles in different types of companies is extremely useful. Not only do these relationships let us share ideas and insights, they also increase our position and visibility in the South West.”
