MBA Student Gregor Schmitt

Alumnus helps put student in the fast lane

Nigel Fenn recently conducted a mock job interview which  helped Exeter MBA student Gregor Schmitt secure his dream job at BMW.

Gregor was keen to work for the motoring giant, so Nigel tailored the practice job interview to prepare him for the real thing.  Nigel advised Gregor on how he could strengthen his interview performance and helped him to develop a strategy to talk about his experience.

A couple of months later, Gregor’s dream became reality when, after a successful interview, BMW offered him a role as a Purchasing Specialist in their Munich team. He took up his new role this month.

“The mock interview experience I went through with Nigel really helped me to build the confidence and skill base I needed ahead of my real interview with BMW,” he said. “I would like to thank Nigel for his help and encouragement.”

Nigel, who works for South West Water and was a student on the University’s Director Development course, volunteered to do a number of mock interviews for MBA students.

“I was delighted to hear about Gregor’s success,” said Nigel. “It is always a pleasure meeting the staff and diverse range of talented students you have at the Business School. As always, I’m happy to help out where I can.”

Nigel used his personal experience of the business world to offer invaluable advice to the students’ who came to his career advice session, helping to develop their interview skills and deportment. He also assisted them with their CVs and writing effective cover letters.
