Research interests

  • Formal and informal communication by companies to analysts and investors

Companies can communicate with the investment community through accounting reports, speeches at conferences and meetings with analysts. Thomas is interested in comparing the stock market impact of these various media. One of the issues of concern is that all investors should have equal access to disclosed information.

Research projects

Thomas is using intraday stock market data to measure the impact on stock trading of the announcement of earnings and the subsequent investor conference.

  • Finance and investment

Thomas's teaching interests cover corporate finance and investment analysis using accounting data. Corporate finance is concerned with long-term financial decision making within companies. Investment analysis deals with the way in which investors use accounting disclosures to value a company's securities.
