Samantha Smith is an Honorary Fellow at the Business School. She delivers on the MBA in the area of personal and professional effectiveness.
Samantha is also Programme Director of the innovative Leadership and Management in the Aviation Industry Foundation Degree (LMAI FDA). This national pilot programme is the result of an exemplar partnership between Exeter University, Flybe and Exeter College.
In 2005, Samantha set up her first online venture. In 2006, she was selected by NESTA (The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts) as one of the UK’s ‘Creative Pioneers’ and participated in a yearlong intensive business development programme with mentors including Tony Elliot (Time Out) and Andrew Wheatley (Cabinet).
Samantha’s company – Transition Tradition Limited – subsequently secured capital investment and has worked with a wide range of organisations to create change solutions, including: Oxford University, Aim Higher, The Centre for Career Management Studies, Arts Council England and the University of London.
Samantha designs and delivers programmes for individuals, institutions and communities on subjects including: creative work/life structures, personal effectiveness and continuous career management. As a result of her experience, Samantha has an interest in pedagogies of reflective practice and business education. She has undertaken research, for the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) Programme Assessment Strategies (PASS) Project, which considers the impact of assessment in business education. Samantha is also completing the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and the Postgraduate Certificate in Education in the Post-Compulsory sector.

Samantha’s current research interests centre upon the sufficiency of the means to achieve the desired outcomes for the individual or organisation. The LMAI FDA was designed to deliver impact for both the employee and the employer – forthcoming qualitative research will seek to establish the extent to which this goal has been realised.

Samantha is currently researching the impact of programme level assessment models in leadership and management learning (NTFS, PASS Project). She is also undertaking a qualitative analysis of individual leadership learning upon the wider organisation (FLYBE).

Samantha‘s teaching interests spring from her passionate belief in the need to develop both the individual and their knowledge. She draws on a wide range of practitioner and research-led sources and innovative delivery techniques to create a synoptic space, which enables individuals to develop their own understanding of, and techniques for, personal and professional effectiveness.
