Nicolas joined the University of Exeter in 2013 as an entrepreneurial business school academic with over 20 years experience Ieading and managing highly committed teams and strategic projects to enhance the student experience at Russell Group universities. An international business and corporate strategy specialist, Nicolas investigates the role of business in society and the impact of emerging business models built around the sharing economy and circular economy principles. Prior to this, Nicolas started as a FME Research Fellow in International Business while at the University of Leeds where he developed and taught several UG, PG and MBA modules and researched for 15 years, having been promoted to Lecturer, Senior Lecturer then Associate Professor.
Nicolas has designed, developed and repositioned various Master, MBA and dual degree programmes, embedding innovation in programme design and delivery, securing EFMD and AMBA accreditations and global rankings (Financial Times, Corporate Knights) while collaborating with business and the third sector to create experiential learning opportunities. For four years Nicolas led the acclaimed One Planet MBA, then created the Exeter MBA - probably the most innovative MBA programme on the market today, ranked 1st in the world in Corporate Knights' 2017 MBA Rankings.
Nicolas’s expertise revolves around regional economic integration in Europe and North America, the Brexit debate, the conduct of international business in emerging economies and their integration in the world economy and the rise of emerging multinationals from Asia. More recently Nicolas started questioning the role of business in society and its impact, and the impact of emerging business models built around circular economy principles (think Uber, Airbnb and the likes).
Nicolas is a member of the Academy of Business in Society, the Academy of International Business and the RSA.

In the past 20 years Nicolas’s research interests have revolved around the formation of trading blocs in Europe and North America and their impact on the multinational firm’ strategies, the strategies of emerging multinationals from Asia and their acquisitions overseas. More recently, my interests have focused on the rise of new business models made possible by the platform economy, and in particular those based on sharing and circular economy principles.
