Creative Quadrant

The Creative Quadrant (CQ) and the Skydeck are versatile and dynamic spaces designed for creative learning.

Playful by design, these spaces prioritise the use of interactive, hands-on processes to foster interdisciplinary problem-solving, iterative innovation, and (design) thinking through practical application.

The furniture in both spaces is equipped with wheels, allowing for infinite reconfigurations and adaptability. There is also a selection of low-fi prototyping materials and tools available for use by staff and students during their sessions.

The CQ sits alongside the family of workshops in the engineering department, providing a broad network of knowledge, processes, and training opportunities that are accessible to all members of the University’s community.

The CQ

Welcome to the CQ, a space of endless possibilities!

The Creative Quadrant (CQ) is designed to be interruptive, iterative and enjoyed by a diverse community of fellow makers and doers. With creativity at its heart, the space is activated by staff and students coming together to participate in a wide range of hands-on sessions.

At the CQ, we believe that everyone is a custodian of the space, and it is our intention to evolve the space through community-led use. We provide a short on-boarding activity to introduce and familiarise those looking to facilitate sessions using the CQ. For general use, your participants do not require an induction. However, if you would like to advance your skills with the space and equipment, we offer further training sessions for some of the more involved tools, such as knives, glue-guns, electric drills, and machines like plotter-cutters and 3D printers.

Whether you're a faculty member seeking a dynamic teaching space with creative capacity or a student looking for somewhere to run a hands-on club or event, you can contact us at creativequadrant@exeter.ac.uk to book a visit or have a chat. Please refer to the CQ bookings calendar and quick reference information provided below for further details about the space.
