Laura Colombo
Senior Lecturer (Management, Sustainable Futures)
What do you teach? I teach Environment, Society, and Business, a 30-credit transdisciplinary module on the BSc Business and Environment Programme. In this module, students explore the interdependent relationships between business and the social-ecological systems that sustain it.
What is the focus of your research? My research focuses on bridging ecology and management studies. I am particularly interested in the development of a social-ecological approach to management education. I am also interested in regenerative agriculture, post-growth organisations and their scaling strategies.
What do you love most about working at the Business School? I love being the Programme Director for BSc Business and Environment, a programme co-created with students and colleagues from various departments, grounding sustainable business in environmental science and environmental justice.
What do you do beyond working at the Business School? I have chosen to work part-time at the Business School, four days a week. While this comes with some challenges, it allows me to dedicate one day a week to activities I’m passionate about outside of work. I’m a member of a growers’ cooperative and I love spending time growing nutritious and sustainable food alongside others.
Name one professional goal you would like to achieve in the next three years. Much like the emergence of Ecological Economics in the 1970s, I aim to contribute to developing a social-ecological approach to management – one that challenges and expands the traditional boundaries of thinking in the field. I look forward to partnering more closely with colleagues in the natural sciences and am excited to see what will emerge from the collaborations I’ve been building over the years.
